Frequently asked questions:
Does my son/daughter require their own passport?
Yes. All students are required to have their own individual passport. It is also important that the correct spelling is submitted on the 'contact details' form when applying to go on the tour, as if there are any changes due to an incorrect spelling the cost must be covered by you. Please ensure that the passport is in date!
Does my son/daughter need to have their own travel insurance?
No. Comprehensive insurance is included in the tour price.
What is included in the price of the tour?
My son/daughter needs to take medication daily - who do I need to inform?
Any medical condition and/or medication taken must be described on the 'Contact Details' sheet given to students. If you have not made the tour leader aware of any ongoing medical conditions you must do so immediately, as it may affect any possible future insurance claim if not disclosed.
A member of the tour team will be given sole responsibility for first aid on the tour and you can discuss with them any specific requirements your son/daughter may have; you will have an opportunity to do this at the parents meeting later in the year.
Why did my son/daughter have to supply contact details, mobile phone numbers, etc.?
It is important that parents/guardians can be contacted at all times. We ask for students' mobile numbers as it is the best way to contact them if they are late returning to a meeting point.
What happens if my son/daughter has to visit an A&E when abroad?
Before we depart on the tour we ensure that all students have a valid EHIC (European Health Insurance Card). These cards are free and have to be presented abroad to avail of medical care. We will be assigning a tour team member to oversee that all students have the EHIC.
What 'rules' apply on the tour?
All school rules apply except for uniform. Please click on the 'Guidelines' tab for a comprehensive list of rules and expected standard of behaviour that apply on tour. Also check the 'AVS Excursions Policy' for the school's definitive policy concerning trips.
What staff members are travelling on the tour?
The tour team when finalised will appear under 'Tour Team' tab .
How much pocket money does my son/daughter need to bring with them on tour?
Entrance fees to all attractions are included in the tour price, as are breakfast and evening meal. The only meal that students will need to pay for is lunch in the middle of the day. We have been informed that the hotel will ask for a 'good behavior bond' of €10 on arrival - this is returned to students on check-out providing that no damage has been caused to the rooms. A 'tourist tax' of 80 cents/€1 per person per night is also payable on arrival (this will amount to €3 max.). If you have any other questions concerning money I will answer them at the parents meeting later in the year.
What happens if my son/daughter is unable to go on the tour after they have paid for all or part of the tour?
Students who are unable to travel will be able to claim from the insurance company providing that the reason for cancellation is covered by the policy (see 'Insurance' under the 'parents' tab for details).
How can I contact the tour leader?
You can contact the office on 074-9721105 or you can email me by clicking here. While on tour I will have a school mobile with me and you will be able to reach me on it (I will furnish this number closer to departure).
